Celebrating youth all over the world

Aug 11, 2017

On 17 December 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared 12 August each year ‘International Youth Day’. The day serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in change, and an opportunity to raise awareness of challenges and problems facing the world’s youth. Today there are more young people in the world than ever before, which means that more young minds are ready to play their role for the future of humanity!

Airbus is proud to have UNESCO as partner for Fly Your Ideas and shares UNESCO’s goal on International Youth Day to celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society. “On International Youth Day, let us all unite – international actors, governments, civil society and educational institutions -- to partner with young women and men to craft new paths together towards more peaceful societies” said UNESCO’s Director General, Irina Bokova. “Youth stand at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and UNESCO is working across the board to support them not as beneficiaries but as leaders, playing vital roles at local, national and global levels. This starts with work to create environments to empower young women and men as change-makers in their communities.”

Together with UNESCO we know that young people can make a difference with innovative and ambitious ideas for the future and Fly Your Ideas is about just that. We were delighted to welcome two distinguished UNESCO representatives to join Airbus at our HQ in Toulouse for the 2017 Fly Your Ideas Final. Prof. Romain Murenzi, Director of the Division of Science Policy and Capacity Building (Left), and Rovani Sigamoney, Assistant Programme Specialist (Right), joined us for two days to hear from the finalist teams and share their experience with the students and Airbus.

For those who missed it, here’s another chance to see the message shared by UNESCO Assistant Director-General Flavia Schlegel to the Fly Your Ideas teams.
