We have a long track record for innovation in aircraft design – including the introduction of fly-by-wire technology into civil airliners, the development of composite aero structures, the use of advanced materials and overall aerodynamic efficiency – all of which have significantly reduced our aircrafts’ environmental impacts.

Beyond considerations of environmental performance alone, Airbus has embarked towards an eco-efficiency approach/management practice: expanding the environmental considerations to economy aspects, demonstrating how a better management of environmental aspects throughout the life cycle also brings added value to the company, with less environmental impact.
Eco-efficiency is fully embedded into the core heart of the Airbus strategy and management. Based on ISO 14001 and designed to align, channel and leverage all environmental initiatives across the company, SPOEMS, Airbus’ Site- and Product-Oriented Environmental Management System, is an innovative, progressive approach that integrates both manufacturing site aspects and product-related activities throughout the whole aircraft lifecycle – from the design, production and operations phases to its retirement from service. This is key to allow the assessment of significant environmental impacts of Airbus’ processes and products and to target relevant improvements where it makes sense and seems the most efficient, often at the earliest design stage.
By continuously working towards greener skies, Airbus seeks to ensure that air transport continues to be an eco-efficient means of transport, delivering economic value while minimizing its environmental impact – reconciling environmental protection with the development of the economy, thus meeting society’s expectations.
